The Laundromat Project and Denniston Hill Artist In Residence

ABOUT

Iván Gaete is a multidisciplinary artist whose practice is concerned with the transformation of matter, both physical and conceptual. His drawings, works on paper, and installations speak to the nature of material impermanence with emphasis on mark-making and registration. Playful and thought-provoking, his works invite viewers to engage in the art-making process through individual actions and gestures that amplify collective creativity and awareness.

Gaete has received numerous awards and fellowships, including a BRIO Visual Arts award from the Bronx Council on the Arts, a Create Change fellowship from The Laundromat Project, and an AIM fellowship from The Bronx Museum of the Arts. He has been an Artist-In-Residence at Residency Unlimited (Brooklyn, NY), Denniston Hill (Glendale, NY), Artists Alliance LES Studio Program (NYC), and The Wassaic Project (Wassaic, NY). Other residency highlights include Chashama Space to Connect (Bronx, NY). Ace Hotel (NYC) and Expressiones Cultural Center (New London, CT). Gaete has shown in New York at The Bronx Museum of the Arts, Bronx Arts Space, Bronx River Arts Center, NurtureArt, The Clemente Center, and other notable venues.

Recent group exhibitions include:
I Come to This Place” at Smack Mellon (Brooklyn, NY)
DYKWTCA” at The Corner at Whitman-Walker (Washington, DC)
